Ari Lennox

Courtney Shanade Salter, also called Ari Lennox, a Washington, D.C.-based American singer/songwriter, was signed as Dreamville Records' first female artist with Dreamville Records by J. Cole. On October 21, 2016 she dropped Pho, her first EP under the Dreamville Records label. This was when she first gained the attention of her peers. Shea Butter Baby is her debut album. It was released on May 19, 2019. Ari Lennox started posting her music to the internet in 2012 as she dropped her first mixtape, Five Finger Discount and debut EP Ariography, in 2013. Ari Lennox continued to upload her tracks online through 2014, which included the self-released single Bound. In the year 2015, she performed on Omen's Elephant Eyes album on Sweat it out on July 21st. J. Cole, who was part of the Dreamville team at the time, wanted to have her perform on Rihanna reference. On the 8th of December, it was announced that she was officially signed by Dreamville Records. Backseat was her contribution for The Revenge of the Dreamers II album. In October 2016, she released her first EP, Pho. Ari Lennox was a guest on J. Cole's Change as well as performing on her own 4 Your Eyez Only Tour as the opening act. She also appeared on the songs Nothing but the Best by EarthGang and Icarus with Bas the label's co-founders. Ari Lennox, on the 16th of July 2018 was the first artist to release her single "Whipped Cream" from Shea Butter Baby. The music video was released on September 5th. Her second single, Grampa on November 9. The 13th of November, she came out with two additional singles, The No One or Pedigree. Shea Butter Baby is a song that she performed alongside Cole for Creed II's soundtrack on the 16th of November. The track was released as a standalone single in February of 2019 to coincide with the release of her debut album. The song, made available with a video posted on YouTube February 20, 2019 has been viewed over 3 million times within the first 7 days. She was part of the 6LACK's From East Atlanta With Love Tour back in December of 2018.
